Welcome to Web77 Basic computer repair and installation.

The purpose of this site is basically to save you money on minor computer repairs that you can do yourself if you know what you need to do. Many companies charge what is called a ‘bench fee’. This means you pay anywhere from $40 to $100 labor for them to simply take the cover off your machine.

If you aren’t sure what the problem is, then this site won’t be of much help to you, I’m afraid. Diagnostics and troubleshooting are the hardest part of finding a computer problem, so that should be left up to someone trained in that area.

What we intend to cover here is simple, easy to fix things that you can do yourself with a screwdriver and a steady hand and save the bench fee’s involved with PC repair.

Some of the things we will cover are installation of the following;

Floppy drive

Hard drive

Cd/dvd drive

Memory

Power supply

The first thing that you have to do is figure out how your case cover(s) come off. There are usually screws in the rear that are taken out to remove the cover(s), but since there are a great many styles of cases out there, its best to take the time and figure this out for your yourself for your own computer.

Understand also, that some warranties on new computers will be voided if you remove these screws yourself instead of having the company you bought it from do the work (some companies offer a call in tech support line where they will walk you through a diagnostic procedure)

If you have an older computer though, its most likely not under warranty any more and it might actually end up being as expensive to fix, in terms of labor costs,  as buying a new system, so in these cases it may be cheaper for you to do the maintenance yourself.

Always be sure to turn  off your computer and unplug your power cords before removing the cover(s). Failure to do so may  result in electrical shock or death and will certainly end in a ruined PC.
